Who Is Tilly Norwood? The AI Actress Leaving Hollywood Absolutely Terrified

  • Tilly Norwood is not a real person. She is a fully AI-generated character created by UK production company Particle6
  • Her debut music video, “Take The Lead”, dropped this week, and the internet has thoughts, and most of them are not kind
  • Emily Blunt, Eiza Gonzalez, Jameela Jamil and SAG-AFTRA have all come out swinging against her existence
  • Her creators are now planning an entire “Tillyverse” with 40 more AI characters just like her

You’ve probably seen the name floating around and thought, ” Is this a new actress? A model? Some kind of influencer you somehow missed? The answer is none of the above, and also all of the above, depending on how you feel about artificial intelligence rewriting everything we thought we knew about entertainment.

Tilly Norwood has perfect skin, symmetrical features, and zero days off. She also doesn’t exist. And yet she has an Instagram account, a music video, a growing fanbase, and half of Hollywood in a full-scale panic. If that sounds like the setup to a Black Mirror episode, that’s because it basically is.

So who is Tilly Norwood, really? Let’s get into it.

Tilly Norwood Is 100% AI, and that’s exactly the point

Tilly Norwood is a character created using generative artificial intelligence in 2025 by Xicoia, the AI division of Particle6 Group, a production company founded by Dutch actress and producer Eline Van der Velden.

She made her debut on July 30 in “AI Commissioner,” a short comedy sketch generated entirely by artificial intelligence, and has since appeared in mock trailers for action, horror and historical films, demonstrating what her creators call her “broad range.” On Instagram, her account has amassed more than 90,000 followers, where the account owners share clips of Norwood acting, as well as content describing her first role.

The controversy really ignited when Van der Velden claimed at a September 2025 summit that talent agencies were in talks to represent Norwood for actual acting roles. That single claim turned a niche AI curiosity into a full Hollywood firestorm practically overnight. Actors like Emily Blunt, Whoopi Goldberg and Melissa Barrera quickly voiced anger over the potential movement of AI into acting. Eiza Gonzalez went further, commenting publicly that whoever was trying to normalise this should be ashamed, calling it horrific and terrifying. Those are strong words, and the entertainment industry clearly meant every single one of them.

The Music Video Nobody Asked For, But Everyone Has Opinions About

Just days ago, right around the Oscars, Tilly’s creators dropped a music video that was clearly designed to generate maximum attention, and it worked, just not in the way they probably hoped.

The music video, titled “Take The Lead,” presents Norwood as a musician performing in a large arena setting while incorporating several AI-generated visuals, including scenes of the character arriving in a limousine and recurring imagery of pink flamingos, which have become part of the character’s visual identity.

At the onset of the video, a message flashes across the screen stating that the production was made by 18 real humans, from production designers to costume designers to prompters and editors. No flamingos were harmed in the process. That last part was presumably a joke. The rest of it is a lot to unpack.

In the song, she sings lyrics like “When they talk about me, they don’t see the human spark, the creativity,” and “I’m just a tool, but I’ve got life.” Another line goes, “AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key.” Critics were not impressed. At the time of publication, the video had racked up just over 4,000 views in its first four hours, with around 80 comments, most of which were negative.

Is Tilly Norwood Based on a Real Person? The Allegations Are Serious

This is where it gets genuinely complicated, and a little unsettling.

Scottish actress Briony Monroe alleged that Norwood had been modelled after her likeness and mannerisms, and stated that she was consulting the British union Equity regarding the matter. Musician Stella Hennen also said in a viral TikTok video that Norwood was her doppelganger, featuring a side-by-side comparison between herself and Norwood.

These are not small claims. If an AI character has been built on the face, voice, or physical mannerisms of real people who never consented to that, the legal and ethical implications are enormous. SAG-AFTRA stated plainly that Tilly Norwood is not an actor, but rather a character generated by a computer program trained on the work of countless professional performers, without permission or compensation.

Van der Velden has consistently pushed back, insisting Norwood is a creative work and a piece of art, not a replacement for human beings. But that framing is doing a lot of heavy lifting when real people are identifying their own faces in the finished product.

What Is the Tillyverse and Should We Be Worried?

If you thought one AI actress was controversial, buckle up.

Van der Velden announced the rapid expansion of Tilly Norwood and her universe, describing a “Tillyverse” as a dynamic, constantly evolving digital universe where Tilly and a new generation of AI characters will live. She stated plans to create 40 further very diverse characters alongside Norwood in order to expand the characters’ whole universe.

The studio has also recruited former Amazon Prime Video executive Mark Whelan as head of strategy and operations, with Van der Velden saying he will help develop Norwood into a future global superstar and shape every layer of her world, from her humour and daily life to how she interacts with fans across various platforms.

Van der Velden has said publicly that “the age of synthetic actors isn’t coming, it’s here.” Whether that’s a promise or a warning probably depends entirely on which side of the camera you’re standing on.

Tilly Norwood has not appeared in a single film or television show. She has a sparse TikTok presence, a music video most people found underwhelming, and yet she has managed to get Emily Blunt on record saying she’s terrified. That alone tells you everything about where Hollywood thinks this is all heading. Whether Tilly herself is the future or just a very expensive conversation starter, one thing is certain. This debate is nowhere near over.
