Is Russell Brand Dead? Here's How One Vague Tweet Sent the Entire Internet Into a Spiral

  • Russell Brand is alive. His representatives confirmed the death reports circulating on March 10 are a complete hoax
  • The rumour started after podcaster Dan Bongino posted a cryptic tweet about “one of the saddest days” of his life alongside a photo with Brand and Charlie Kirk
  • Bongino was actually referring to Charlie Kirk’s passing, not Russell Brand
  • Brand, 50, is currently preparing for his rape and sexual assault trial, which is scheduled to begin on June 16, 2026

Russell Brand is not dead. But by Tuesday afternoon, you would never have known that from looking at X.

It started with a single tweet. Podcaster Dan Bongino posted the words “There won’t be another. One of the saddest days of my life”, alongside a photo that included both Russell Brand and Charlie Kirk. He did not name anyone. He did not clarify anything. He just posted it and walked away from the keyboard.

The internet did the rest. Within minutes, thousands of people had drawn the same conclusion, the wrong one, and the name Russell Brand was trending across X with the kind of energy that only comes with celebrity death news.

Bongino was addressing Charlie Kirk’s passing, not Russell Brand’s. Russell Brand is alive, and there are no reports of him being gravely ill or hospitalised. Brand had absolutely nothing to do with what Bongino was mourning. He was simply in the photo.

How Fast Did It Spread?

Remarkably fast. The kind of fast that should make everyone stop and think about how they consume information online.

As soon as the tweet circulated, rumours of Brand’s death spread across X, with posts about him garnering thousands of likes as users expressed shock that they had found out “this way.”  One user wrote, “I can’t believe this is how I found out Russell Brand is dead,” quoting the Bongino tweet directly, as if the vague post about an entirely different person was somehow confirmed breaking news.

It was not. Not even close.

Brand’s representatives officially confirmed that Russell Brand is not dead, saying he “joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimised by this hoax” and urging people to “stop believing what you see on the Internet.”

This Is Not Even the First Time

Here is the part that puts the whole thing in perspective. This is not Russell Brand’s first rodeo with fake death rumours. Not even remotely.

Years ago, a fake news site posted a story claiming Brand had died in Switzerland after losing control of his snowboard and striking a tree. Brand’s response at the time was characteristically unbothered. “Bloody hell. I’d better cancel the milk,” he posted on social media, along with a link to the fake story.

The man has been killed off by the internet multiple times now. He keeps showing up anyway.

What Is Actually Going On With Russell Brand Right Now

Since we are all here and talking about him, here is what is genuinely happening in Russell Brand’s life in March 2026, and it is significant.

Brand entered a not guilty plea to charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault relating to four women, with the alleged incidents said to have taken place between 1999 and 2005. His trial is scheduled to begin on June 16, 2026.

In December 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised two further charges against Brand, one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to two additional women. He has disputed all charges against him.

So no. Russell Brand is not dead. He is very much alive, very much in the news, and facing the most serious legal proceedings of his life. The trial begins June 16. That is the story worth following.

Next time a vague tweet goes viral with no name attached, maybe wait five minutes before hitting retweet.
