Gucci Mane Dallas Kidnapping Rumors Explained: Truth Behind Viral Claims

What started circulating online as rumors quickly turned out to be one of the most explosive stories in hip-hop history.

Gucci Mane, one of the founding fathers of trap music and the man behind Atlanta’s powerful 1017 Records, was allegedly lured to a Dallas music studio under the pretense of a business meeting, only to be held at gunpoint, forced to sign away a recording contract, and robbed of his wedding ring.

The shocking details, now confirmed by the U.S. Department of Justice, have left the music industry speechless. This was not a rumor, not a social media hoax, and not a publicity stunt.

This was a federally charged kidnapping involving nine suspects, two well-known rappers, and a plan that apparently took careful coordination across multiple states. Here is everything you need to know.

How It All Started: A “Business Meeting” That Was Never What It Seemed

Rapper Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., allegedly asked to meet with Gucci Mane in Dallas on January 10 to discuss his contract with Mane’s label 1017. On the surface, it sounded routine. A signed artist unhappy with his deal wants to sit down with his label boss. It happens in the music industry all the time.

But this meeting was anything but routine.

The victims, including Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, flew into Dallas that Saturday afternoon for what they believed was a meeting to discuss a recording contract dispute involving Pooh Shiesty. They had no reason to suspect anything was wrong. Gucci Mane arrived with two associates and two security guards for the scheduled meeting.

What they walked into, according to federal prosecutors, was a carefully planned trap.

Inside the Studio: Guns, a Forced Signature, and a Wedding Ring Stolen

Investigators say the suspects entered the studio around 3:43 p.m. on January 10 and quickly separated the victims, with Pooh Shiesty taking Gucci Mane into a recording room while others remained in a control room.

Once they were alone, the situation escalated fast.

Williams Jr. asked Davis at the meeting to sign a release that terminated his contract. When Davis declined, Williams Jr. became agitated, and the pair started to argue. Williams Jr. then pulled what appeared to be a black AK-style pistol from a bag and pointed it at Davis, demanding again that he sign the contractual release paperwork. Davis complied, signing the paperwork.

It did not stop there. Williams Sr. told his son the paperwork needed a date, so Shiesty forced Davis to add one next to his signature, while Big30 recorded the signing on his phone. After Davis signed, Shiesty took his wedding ring, watch, earrings, and cash.

Meanwhile, in the adjoining room, the rest of the group was doing the same to the other victims. One victim was choked from behind to the point of near unconsciousness, while another had his wallet stolen and a 1017 chain ripped from his neck. Big30 blocked the studio door with his body to prevent the victims from leaving.

The stolen items included Rolex watches, a Louis Vuitton bag, AirPods, jewelry, and cash.

The Evidence Trail They Left Behind

What makes this case even more remarkable is how much evidence the suspects allegedly left behind.

Cellphone records, surveillance footage, and license plate reader data showed several suspects traveled together from Memphis to Dallas in the days leading up to the incident and stayed overnight at a Dallas hotel after the robbery.

Then there was the ankle monitor.

Williams was wearing an ankle monitor because he was on home confinement for a prior firearms conspiracy conviction out of Florida. Investigators also cited electronic monitoring data showing Pooh Shiesty was at the studio despite being on home confinement for a prior federal firearms conviction. His own court-ordered tracking device placed him directly at the scene of the crime.

The last location for the AirTag attached to the stolen wallet was a parking lot next to where Williams Sr. currently has a leased apartment. The victim had unknowingly helped investigators track the group.

And then the suspects made it even easier for authorities. Within hours of this robbery and kidnapping, numerous suspects in this case posted some of the items stolen on social media. Rolex watches and jewelry believed to be stolen were flaunted openly online for the world to see.

Nine Charged, One Still on the Run

The U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Ryan Raybould, described Pooh Shiesty as the “ringleader” of the operation. He did not mince words when addressing the press.

“Nine defendants travelled to Dallas, Texas, to kidnap and rob victims who thought they were coming into town for a business meeting. Instead of discussing business civilly, the defendants resorted to violence and intimidation to achieve their purported business objectives,” Raybould said.

Eight of the nine suspects were arrested in Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville. Big30 reportedly remains at large.

All nine defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

As for Pooh Shiesty, the timing could not be worse from a legal standpoint. He had been released from jail in October 2025 after serving three years for a gun charge in Miami, after pleading guilty to conspiring to possess firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence and drug trafficking. He was on home detention at the time of the January robbery and kidnapping, with the terms dictating that he would not commit another crime or possess a firearm.

He had only been out of prison for roughly three months.

What This Means for Hip-Hop and the 1017 Empire

Gucci Mane is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of trap music alongside fellow Atlanta rappers T.I. and Jeezy. He emerged in the mid-2000s with his breakout single “Icy” and went on to build a vast catalog, helping launch or develop artists including Young Thug.

Pooh Shiesty signed with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records in 2020. His debut mixtape reached the top 15 on the Billboard charts and featured Gucci Mane himself. The two had a visible public relationship before Shiesty’s first prison stint.

Now, the man who once appeared on tracks alongside Gucci Mane is facing life in federal prison for allegedly holding him at gunpoint.

The case has raised serious questions about artist contracts, label disputes, and the extreme lengths some are reportedly willing to go to escape a deal they feel trapped in. Legal music industry professionals are already pointing out that there are legitimate pathways to challenge recording contracts, including arbitration, litigation, and renegotiation. None of those options apparently appealed to the accused in this case.

What is undeniable is that the Gucci Mane Dallas kidnapping is no longer a rumor. It is a federal case, backed by ankle monitor data, surveillance footage, AirTag location tracking, fingerprint evidence, social media posts, and Greyhound bus records. The evidence trail is extensive, and the legal consequences could not be more serious.
